HENRY'S THOUGHTS ON THE BLENDTEC DESIGNER 725

The Blendtec Designer 725 is definitely different than most other blenders on the market, including other Blendtec models. Like all Blendtec machines the 725 is designed and built in the USA and they are hand built. The Blendtec's claim to fame has always been about automated controls. Just Touch n' Blend....although the Designer 725 does offer a manual touch slider control, which is an improvement upon earlier Blendtec models.

The overall design of the machine is simplistic, attractive and will easily add style to any kitchen. I do however wish there was a cord wrap underneath to maintain a more cleaner appearance on the counter.

CONTROL PANEL

The Control Panel display is bright, uncluttered and easy to read with nicely detailed graphics of the presets so you will know which one to use based on what you are blending. Blendtec did a fine job on the Control Panel. I like the fact that accidental spills are easy to clean up since there are no controls or switches  for liquids to seep through.

SMARTBLEND TECHNOLOGY

I found the SMARTBLEND feature to not always be accurate. For instance it would pop up messages telling me to add more liquid due to cavitation (air pockets preventing food from blending) when I was creating nut butters. Because it was blending thick ingredients it just figured I needed more liquid when I certainly did not. SMART BLEND is on by default but it can be disabled in settings. It can be a bit misleading when a consumer sees these messages giving the impression they could be causing damage to the machine when in fact it's not the case at all. At least that's the impression I got. SMARTBLEND is a nice feature but it's just not perfect.

ADD 10

Sometimes you need more time on your preset and the "Add 10" feature adds 10 seconds of time to your preset each time you press the designated preset button. My only issue with the Add 10 feature is it's not obvious on the display. Unless you read the owner's manual there is nothing on the display that indicates there is such a feature as "Add 10"

THE BLUNT BLADE

The Designer 725 turned out a smooth blend with everything I threw at it from Kale, Spinach, Raw Veggies and Frozen Fruit with seeds. The blade being dull in design may throw consumers off thinking it can't break down tough ingredients. It does the job very well and it makes it easy to reach down inside the jar to scrape out the ingredients or for cleaning without the chances of cutting your fingers. It's definitely a family-friendly machine.

MOTOR

In terms of noise, the Designer 725 is loud as to be expected. It has a 3.8 peak horsepower motor which is very powerful for a Blender. This is not necessarily a deal breaker as I have yet to test a Blender or any electronic kitchen tool that couldn't wake up heavy sleepers early in the morning.

BLEND REWARDS

Just when I thought this was a gimmick I found the Blend Rewards feature to be way too much fun and it literally makes you want to use the Designer 725 even more. Once you reach a certain amount of blends it rewards you with an on-screen trophy and a special redeem code to be used on blendtec.com/rewards. It can be used towards recipe books, smoothie cups and much more. I'm actually looking forward to using the machine more so I can see what other rewards to get. It's important to remember when cooking is to have a great time doing it and the Blend Rewards feature is definitely on the right track and other manufacturers should take notice on this invaluable feature on the Blendtec Designer 725.

TWISTER JAR

The Twister Jar (although sold separately) is an invaluable asset to any Blendtec machine and it should be an automatic purchase when buying a Blendtec. My only issue is I found the Twister Jar to feel somewhat awkward to use. It does take some getting used to with the twisting mechanism. I like that it comes with a vented gripper lid so it can be used for standard blending and it's ideal for making baby food and/or fruit and veggie purées.

CONCLUSION

Do I recommend the Blendtec Designer 725? Absolutely! It can definitely satisfy the needs of most demanding cooks at home. One thing to note is all Blendtec machines from the most affordable to the top of the line incorporate the same designed commercial-grade motor and return the same commercial-quality blending results as the Blendtec machines used in commercial establishments, so it's really about the small features between all models.

The Blendtec Designer 725 retails for $649 however as I mentioned the most affordable Blendtec machine will return the same commercial-quality results so if you are interested in a Blendtec machine I would recommend taking a look at their Certified Refurbished line of machines. They come with a full 7 year warranty. You can't go wrong.
